The peel consists of the application of an acid solution (glycolic, kojic, lactic, salicylic or trichloroacetic acid) that will rid the facial skin of the stratum corneum (layer of dead cells that asphyxiate the skin) and stimulate the fibroblasts (which make the collagen responsible for the tonicité́). The peel allows cell renewal to rid the skin of small imperfections (dilated pores, spots, fine lines…).
The skin will thus be better oxygenated, more radiant, better hydrated, firmer and less wrinkled.
Depending on the condition of the skin, different types of products will be used:
the superficial peel with fruit acids (glycolic acid) is ideal for dull and wrinkled facial skin, uneven skin tone, oily skin, pimples acné́ and stained skin.
the medium peel with trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is conseillé́ for more pronounced fine lines, pigmentation spots, dilated pores, inflammatory and cystic acné́ and small scars from acné́. It can be performed on the entire face or only on part of it (eye contour, around the mouth). It acts more deeply by stimulating collagen synthesis. TCA can be combined with depigmenting agents to treat melasma (pregnancy mask).
The strong peel uses a chemical solution of phenol applied to the skin under local or general anaesthesia. It is the most effective treatment for deep peri-oral and peri-orbital wrinkles and localized brown spots.
Is it necessary to prepare the skin?
YES: For 3 to 4 weeks before the peel, the skin should be prepared by daily application of creams that will promote the penetration of the peeling solution, prevent the appearance of spots and prolong the effects of the peel (example: STIM RENEW 8 and 15 from Eneomey).
The peel cannot be performed if the skin is tanned. Sun protection is therefore essential before the peel and will be continued after the session.
Course of a superficial and medium peeling session
After carefully removing make-up and cleansing the skin, the doctor will apply the acid peeling solution with a cotton bud or compress. The number of passes will be déterminé́ depending on the thickness of the skin, the depth of the wrinkles or spots and the skin reaction (observation of whitening for the TCA peel).
Then the solution is neutralized, sometimes rinsed off and a moisturizing and healing cream is applied.
Associated with the mesolift, it has an important revitalizing effect, the skin is firmer, more luminous, more moisturized, more radiant. Ideally, a photo modulation session with LED lamp is then carried out to attenuate the redness linked to the inflammation created by the peel and to moisturize the skin in depth.
Sun protection is essential for at least 1 month after the peel.
The depigmenting cream will also be continued. Creams with fruit acids and vitamin A will be discontinued for a few days.
After a superficial peel, there is no social eviction. You can resume your professional activité́ the next day.
After a medium peel with TCA, a slight fine desquamation may appear on the 3rd day and last for about 3 days. It can be attenuated by applying a moisturizing and repairing cream.
Gentle scrubs and peels adapted to the skin type and performed once or twice a week will prolong the effects of the peel.
Rhythm of the sessions
Medium peeling: 3 to 4 sessions spaced 2 to 3 weeks apart then 1 maintenance session is usually sufficient but depending on the type of skin, the doctor will decide if it is necessary to repeat the peeling sessions a few months later.
Are there any contraindications?
There are no real contraindications but rather precautions to be taken in case of :
